Apple Pie
This Grandma Recipe is now reached the third generation, I love this pie, it brings back so many memories, I hope that it can do the same for you… Thank you Grandma 🙂
Ingredients
- 7 -8 apples
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- pinch of salt to taste
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (tbsp should be heaping)
For the dough:
- 2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour plus more as needed, sifted
- 1 cup unsalted butter cubed and cold (but knead-able)
- 6-7 tbsp ice water
- 1/4 tsp salt
- you will need about 2 tbsp more butter 🙂 optional
Instructions
- Mix the butter and flour until it is a fine powder, with grainsadd cold water and do not Knead a lot! only until you get a satisfactory dough!
- then separate into 2 balls, one big and one small
- Separate the dough into 2 balls one big and one small
- Leave the dough in a bowl for about an hour
How to make the filling
- shave apple, add lemon zest and then add the sugar and the salt and lemon juice as well as flour. mix well (I recommend doing this a day ahead or 3 hours ahead) refrigerate for 3 hours-one day
To continue the pie:
- preheat oven to 350°F or 177°C
- Roll out the large dough ball on a parchment into a circle with a 28 cm diameter. Flip the dough into your pie pan, flatten out and seal. add the apple filling (after it sits in the fridge to marinate) and some butter slices on top (optional) then roll out the smaller dough ball into a 24 cm diameter circle… then add that layer on top of the apple layer and seal bake at 350 Fahrenheit/ 177C for 1 hour or until golden
- Serve warm or room temp. or even cold! top with some powdered sugar and an apple rose
