Manakeesh/ Breakfast Pastry

This recipe yields the most amazing breakfast that you can imagine. Can you taste that soft and thick dough and that creamy cheese topping? Perhaps you prefer the savory texture of zaatar and oil. mmmmmm- I love manakeesh.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 heaping tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup warm milk

Zaater Topping

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup zaatar

Cheese mixture

  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1 large egg

Instructions
 

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. Knead of then minutes. Set in a warm, drag-free location and allow the dough to rest for 1.5 hours. Preheat the oven to 375 and prepare 3 baking sheets.
  • Punch the air out of the dough and roll into pizzas that are about 1/4 inch thick and about 1/4-1/2 dough. Spread topping onto the pastries
  • Bake for 15-25 minutes or until the tops of the pastries are golden.
  • Cool and enjoy.
